Word Frequency Analyzer
Use Cases
This tool is ideal for linguistic research (e.g., corpus analysis), SEO optimization to identify frequent keywords, cryptographic analysis of ciphers, or academic studies examining writing style or plagiarism. It’s also useful for content creators refining their text or educators teaching text analysis techniques.
About Word Frequency Analysis
Word frequency analysis splits text into words (by whitespace or punctuation), normalizes them (e.g., lowercase), and counts occurrences using a dictionary. Edge cases like hyphens, apostrophes, or Unicode characters (e.g., “weiß” vs. “weiss”) are handled. For non-Latin scripts, tokenizers are needed, but this tool focuses on Latin alphabets. Stop words (e.g., “the”, “und”) can skew results and are optionally excluded (Source: NLTK Documentation, Stanford NLP).
Note on Stop Words
Stop words like “and”, “the”, or “der” are common and may dominate frequency counts, skewing analysis. Excluding them focuses on content words (nouns, verbs, etc.). The tool includes a basic stop word list for English and German, but custom lists may be needed for specific analyses (Source: Text Mining, Manning & Schütze).
